Simbers's Birthday session 12.04.08

Plan for the day

Meet in the Old Contemptibles around 5.30pm

7.30pm - wherever the Colonel takes us

Review

The chaps assembled as planned in the O.C's - Steve (Tone's brother) & Simbers were joined by Chap, Tone Dave and Ian early doors to neck some decent Otter Ale, Timmy Taylors and the usual fizzy pop beer - Carling. Rog finally made an appearance, approximately four months after his last one thus avoiding the dreaded penalties of a WATN committee red card. Phil, Nige and Steve B. made it a rather decent turn-out for the night's festivities. Plenty of more ales were consumed until it was time to depart to pastures new. Steve 1 and Rog made early exits - Rog needs to be careful of this practice or another yellow card could be issued as the Chaps made their way up to Simber's preferred choice of the Yardbird.

For once Steve B's 'once seen never forgotten look' paid dividends as they tried to charge us to get in before 9.00pm - we complained to the manager who said he'd been doing it from 8.00pm for 5 months, however one of the bouncers recognized Steve from our previous visits and backed us up hence we all blagged in for free!!. For a change there was no Timmy taylors on so we had to settle for a mixture of Guinness, Guinness Red, Lager & Cider whilst discussing various topics and listening to the band. This time the band were not to bad when compared to our last visit up here. As the night wore on the chap number dwindled - Ian & Simber's departing first around 10.15pm, soon followed by Tone & Nige. It was left to the four musketeers, Chap, Dave, Phil and Steve to head off in search of a ruby.

We ended up in the Royal, yes that one upstairs on Smallbrook Ringway - now half the size of the original, but not a bad curry and certainly worth a second visit. Phil was a little subdued after hearing about Steve's family life as we demolished some rather good fayre. This brought the night to a close although Dave and Chap left Phil heading for the casino.
