Rog's 50th Birthday 13th - 15th May 2016

Plan for the weekend

I know it's hard to believe (????) but it's my 50th on Sat 14th May. After the great time we had in Blackpool for Kim's 50th a couple of years we thought we'd be totally original….and go back!

Kim, Ben and I have now booked our rooms and we'd love as many of our wonderful family and friends to join us for a simple good old fashioned get together.

It's an all-inclusive package that includes food, drink and entertainment, here are the details:

Venue: Claremont Hotel Blackpool https://claremonthotelblackpool.co.uk/

If you want details of what’s included just click on the 'special offers' tab.

Standard all-inclusive cost is £119 per person and you can book sea views and single rooms at a supplement. For children under 15, the supplement is £25 if they share a room with you.

If you are able to join us, you can book online or over the phone on 01253 293122. When you book please quote that you want to 'dine with reference 74105' and this enables the hotel to book us all together in the restaurant.

I'm sure there are other things to cover but for now I just wanted to get this out in circulation so you can check the diary. Please come if you can...it will be a blessing and an honour to share my birthday with you all.

Deposit at time of booking is £75.00 per person and the balance can be paid at the hotel on the weekend. At the last count there were about 50 rooms left although singles and some double options are already sold out.

Friday

Everyone assembled during the afternoon to make the most of the 'free-bar' that was available from 3.00pm on the arrival date. This was despite one or two 'Twat-nav's' taking us to the Tower before-hand. Not much time was therefore spent venturing outside even though the weather unusually for Blackpool was fine. Plenty of grog was consumed whilst catching up with a few chaps and the partners who we'd not seen for some time before retiring for a freshen up or the obligatory 'Gentleman's 1/2 hour' before evening dinner.

The evening meal was 3 courses including buffet style starters and puddings and a fair old selection off the menu for the main course. To be fair it was very good and set things up for a relaxed evening of further mirth and merriment. Following dinner we headed back to the lounge to relax by the bar. Phil found his long lost bigger brother whilst trying to drink as many different drinks as he could from the free bar, Taboo being an unusual blast from the past. Around 11.30 a few more weary souls disappeared to bed, some headed for the casino and Phil & Chap took the inevitable battering form the quiz machine, mind you that may have had something to do with the 3 double gins each we managed to negotiate from the bar (when only single measures were allowed!!).

Saturday

Suitably refreshed for a good nights sleep we wondered down to the restaurant to see what was for breakfast. Again a decent selection was availed from a buffet style approach, in other words, fill your face time!!. After dining suitably we got ready for the off. The weather was superb (Rog picked the right week-end!!) and we set off to do various things. Certain members went off to Fleetwood on the tram, another group headed for the pub and the crazy gold whilst Chap, Tone, Jan & Jo went for the more cultural approach of heading up the Tower for a walk on the glass floor (yes that's chap's foot and not his ear!!) and then back down to have a quick shufty around the Ballroom.

After lunch at the hotel, and for those that missed the fish and chips they were excellent the cultured four headed of the Blackpool dungeons. Again this is not a bad thing to do as they lead you through a maze of darkened passages which then have actors telling the history of the area. Chap got dragged up in court for the crime of horse fiddling!! and was promptly banished to Wales as a punishment. A quick ride up and down the Blackpool mile or so on the tram and it was time to head back to the hotel for the evenings entertainment.

Dinner was a bit earlier as Rog had suggested the show would be packed and hard to get a seat. The meal again was excellent and Rog was presented with his 50th birthday cake (which some of us have still not had a slice!!!!). The rest of the evening was spent in the lounge or the show room consuming as much ale as possible before the midnight curfew descended.

An excellent week-end and another Chap 50 milestone gone by the wayside, not too many more left and then it will be on to the 60's, now there's a thought!!
