Review

Well what a day !!!!

The Chaps (Chap, Dave, Tone, Rog, Ted, Phil, Heggy & Deano) met outside Argos in town at 2.30, to catch the train to The Simbers den. This was accomplished via a pit stop at the Oddbins offy. on Colmore Row. Once aboard the train to Dorridge, little time was wasted in opening the first tinnies of the day. Once at the Den, the Chaps had a couple of San Miguels, freshly chilled from the Simbers beer fridge.

After a guided tour of the new lair, the Chaps departed to Simbers' new local, The Railway Tavern. The Chaps sat in the large beer garden whilst sampling a range of fine ales (London Pride, Wadworths 6X, etc) and reminiscing about past exploits (has it really been 10 years since the Rhyl trip ?). The only downside to the new local was the rowdy bowling green mob who were disturbing the sedate drinking session of the Chaps. Since the reason for the session was football, a new nick name for Dave was formed, inspired by his new hair (or lack of it) cut, the Chaps have now named him 'Chemo' which lends itself readily to later eating exploits in the curry house as 'Chemo Naan'. After consuming an assortment of grub (T-bone steaks and steak sandwiches) the Chaps returned back to the Den to settle down for the footy.

What happened next can only be described as a bit of a fairy tale, 1-0 down after 6 minutes it appeared that the usual jinx would strike again, however the Simbers house did not remain quiet for too long as Owen equalised after 12 mins. The Chaps by this time were getting stuck into some serious beers and raised the roof on the stroke of half time when Gerrard put us 2-1 up. Half time pizzas provided by Simbers missus were washed down with more ale in preparation for the second half. It's a good job the neighbours were away as three more second half goals took the Chaps into the realms of ecstasy!!. God only knows what Diane and her mate thought of 9 blokes having a rugby scrum in the lounge every time the ball hit the net, but who cares we stuffed the Krauts good and proper in a memorable match.

The Chaps duly departed after the game to meet up with Jellywise in Zanzibar. He had been working so could not get over to the Den to watch the game (bloody Germans again, he works for BMW!!!!). A few more beers were consumed accompanied by a bit of social chat, boogie and some 'pink lizzardry' into the early hours of the morning. One by one the Chaps sidled off (Nige because in an act of revenge had to work the following Day!!!). Five surviving Chaps (Chap, Chemo, Tone, Phil & Ted) left Z's at the close and went for a curry at the Bombay. This rounded of what had been a quite remarkable day.

See you for the World Cup games next year !!
