Review

The Chaps, Rog, Simbers, Dave, Deano, Phil, Chap duly assembled at Tone's just before the kick off. Beers were soon opened and consumed in anticipation of the forthcoming game. Topics of conversation prior to kick off were Dave's head resembling a motorcycle accident, and Simbers recording Channel 5 porn by accident (Ho ! Ho!).

The game kicked off and England were quickly ahead through a Ferdinand strike that was cause for uproar at the Tone pad. England were impressive and soon took a 2-0 advantage through a Michael Owen trade mark finish, but there was more to come as the Donkey sorry Heskey scored a third before half time. This was cause for more celebration and for Tone to prepare the half time feast of hot dogs, burgers, chicken legs & spare ribs on the indoor outdoor/barbie.!. The Chaps, fully refuelled duly sat back for what proved to be a relaxing second half were no more goals were scored as the boys progressed comfortably to the quarter final. As an aside the team of Phil & Chap comfortably won the eating championships by about five burgers to two !!!!. Simbers one the ice cream eating contest with no other participants.

At about four o'clock the Chaps decided to hit town for more beers, a bus was ordered to transport the remaining crew, Rog had retired early, still carrying an injury from previous sessions !!!!. The journey into town proved to be quite entertaining as Phil desperately tried to negotiate a 'World Cup' discount with the driver, as well as indicating the three nil victory symbol to just about all and sundry. As it happened when the bus pulled up outside the Old Jointstock, in the insuring melee it appears the taxi driver got more than a 10 % increase on what was the actual fare..

In the Old Joinstock, more ale was consumed along with tales of the dim and distant past of holidays to strange & exotic places, women, Planters & just about anything else we could think off. Phil also decided to engage in a conversation with the local Traffic Wardens about issuing tickets after six o'clock. Steve arrived about 6.30, and Tone left, muttering something about The Japanese Flag, he was quickly replaced by the arrival of Nige the bat.

The Chaps then decided to go to the Flapper and Firkin up the canal, although the original plan was to walk, four of us piled in taxis, but Dave & Steve walked, stopping of for a quick jar in the Queens Head. Simbers at this point in time also decided to bail out. We spent most of the rest of the time on the canal side balcony as this was the only way to hear yourself speak as it was heavy rock night. More beers were consumed and the night's entertainment was completed by Steve giving us a demonstration of his legendary head banging skills on the dance floor. The only strange thing about this was that most of the rest of the pub clientele had not got a clue as to what was going on, strange since it was a Rock night at the pub !!!!.

As closing time approached, some of the Chaps decided to go for a curry, Deano had by this time disappeared leaving Dave, Nige and Chap to hit the Bombay. Steve and Phil left for home. A decent ruby finished what had been an excellent and somewhat relaxing day.

PS Message received from Steve - ouch, ouch, ouch, My neck hurts !!!!.
