Chaps,
Thought
it might be good to put together a few words on next week.
Weather permitting on Saturday, the intention is to hold the 2nd Fairbourne PCGA (pissed chaps golfers association) Championship http://www.fairbournegolfclub.co.uk/. I understand part of the path we used to walk there from Barmouth last year is closed so I suspect it’ll be the train over and then the ferry back into Barmouth for an afternoon crawl around Barmouth’s finest (????) hostelries. We’ll try and complete the course in a more timely fashion this year to avoid any sinking feelings with ferries disappearing off into the blue yonder!! Various other bodies possibly joining us for golf, beer and general chappiness.
With
regards to food I don’t intend doing any cooking (and I don’t think Daz does
either!) especially with the Coffee Pot cafe a few minutes’ walk away. Pub on
the site opens at 11am and they do breakfast with a beer if you fancy it…Nick
and Lou will make you very welcome!
Hopefully
Villa’s survival will have been sorted before the Sunday but if it isn’t, KO
is 4pm so you can either get off to get back in time for it or do as I probably
will, which is listen to it on the way home. Might be an opportunity to stretch
the old legs Sunday am if anyone is able??
Domestics
wise, please can you bring a sleeping bag and a pillow (Tone please let Steve
know). Got plenty of out of date fosters in the shed for you to finish off but
otherwise you might want to bring a few tinnies and snacks for alcohol induced
munchies.
For the Fri crew, there are around 20 Talybont’s in Wales and it is quite common to end up at the wrong one! Address is Talybont, Nr Barmouth, Gwynedd. LL43 2AQ.
Rog, Chap and Phil set off around 4.30pm on Thursday night, arriving in Barmouth and the Last Inn for a swift one around 6.30pm. We headed off to the van and to meet up with Daz at Henry's, arriving there about 8.00pm. A fair old session was had with the boys consuming loads of ale and around 7 or so free Jaeger Bombs to celebrate Rog's birthday or should re rename him Roger the Octopus. The chaps finally got to bed around 4.00am in the morning, not ideal preparation for the brewery tour the following day.
Friday
Chap, Daz, Rog & Phil headed off to the 'Coffee Pot' for a full English to revive flagging sprits and to wait for the second wave of chaps to arrive. Tone, Steve, Sim and Ian arrived around 11 just in time to catch the train up to Porthmadog to visit the Purple Moose brewery with 'Welsh' Dave also in tow. A quick livener was had at the Narrow Gauge Railway pub or more to satisfy Rog's 'glop' needs over a steam Engine!!. Brewery tour was not bad with then chaps having a sample or 2 and a free pint glass. We headed back to Porthmadog railway station were again there was a convenient bar for a pint before the return train.
The chaps stopped off at Llanbedr to dine at the Victoria Inn, nice pub decent grub with the exception of the steak sandwich which Phil felt cheated by, before heading back to Talybont and another quick pint in the Ysgethin Inn before finally returning to the caravan site. The boys took a quick shower break before heading down to Henry's for a few last pints before bed time. No real late night this time as were recovering form the previous days excesses and preparing for the 2nd Fairbourne Open.
Saturday - The Faibourne Open, The Merry Tosser and the stare of doom!!.
The chap head down to the 'Coffee Pot' for brekkie, before catching the train over to Fairboune. The matches had previously been drawn and the chaps, with newly arrived Mr Fish in tow to defend his title set about the testing course!!. It was much drier than last year which was ideal for low scoring. Dave F. held on to his title being level with Rog on 37 shots with chap coming in 3rd with a 38. Both Dave and Rog refused an 1 hole play off so Dave was awarded the title as the holder. The boys then split in to 2 groups, the walkers and ferry men and the lazy bastards who waited for the train.
We all finally ended up in the Lat Inn, with Rog's mates form the site joining for a few beers. We later departed for the Talydon again for more ale and also to embark on a game of darts. Chap won both the killer and round the clock completions and Simber's inherited a new nick-name of the 'Merry Tosser' because of his unique throwing style!!. The groups got a bit dispersed across the evening with chaps staying in the Talydon whilst Rog and the rest of the boys went to another pub whose name escapes me. Some went for a curry whilst others from the site decided to play a trick on Rog and nick his coat with the van keys in. This did not go down to well with Rog as he had to call out the site owner to get the spares and it also curtailed the chap plan for a ruby and taxi back to the site. We ended up getting the last train and going down to the Sands burger bar for some fodder. Here Daz arrived from the club and told us they had Rog's jacket but he was not responsible. He accused Simbers for giving him the 'stare of doom' and wanted to evict him!!. Welsh Dave & Chap calmed him down at Henry's, something Daz was to comatose to remember in the Morning.
A good week-end slightly marred by the strange tomfoolery that goes on amongst the regulars, hopefully Rog has forgiven them!!
