Dump the Wife 2 - Barmouth

Review

A trio of chaps (Rog, Chap & Tone) departed via Rog's taxis from Brum to head for the Welsh coast around 2.15pm. A bit of a sad turnout due to the other chaps having various church bazaars to attend (Phil's was legitimate being on holiday in the South of France).

We arrived around 5.00pm to glorious wall to wall sunshine and quickly made plans for the evening - Chap and Tone had already had a couple of Speckled Hen liveners on the journey down so Rog was by this time gagging for a beer. We lobbed on the train up to the Cadwgan Hotel (hear after known as the Derrick Dougan) for some excellent scram washed down with some Cornish ale 'Proper Job' and when that ran out the Village idiot.

We lobbed back to Talybont on the 9.00pm train to meet up with the Telford boys (Daz, Mark and Adrian) who had arrived later in the evening. Several more ales were consumed outside the Sands before final moving on to Henry's bar for a few night-caps (and scratchings). Daz who had recently returned for holiday was drinking some strange pink girly drink that he had tried out there, but could not finish the job - so up stepped Chap in a blatant act of minesweeping to knock it back in one before retiring for the night.

The Chaps rose fairly early on Saturday and all six of us headed for the Tea Coffee-pot for a full English before starting on the days activities. We decided to do the Precipice walk, a gentle four miler around the top of a mountain. Excellent scenery and views to be had but Tone suffered a little bit (need to reduce it to 10 fags and 1/2 bottle of bacardi per day!!). A good workout for the chaps to burn off those big brekkie calories. We headed back via the George Hotel and spent the afternoon in the Sports bar (Rog's van with a well stocked beer fridge) to catch up with some footy and tennis whilst relaxing before the evenings onslaught.

The six intrepid explores again caught the train up to the 'Derrick' for some scram - we sat in the garden in a vain attempt to crash the hog-roast party that was in full swing (hmmm not sure swing is the correct term here!), but that proved unsuccessful so we had to order food from the bar. The round of drinks was again the Village idiot so asking for six was always going to raise an eyebrow ('Six village idiots please!!'). Just a pity that the Welsh trains are worse than the Cornish buses as we again had to lob back at 9.00pm to Talybont.

The rest of the evening was spent firstly at the Sands and then finally Henry's bar, but some of the chaps had hit the 'beer wall' with big Tone retiring early!!. Even chap left bag of scratchings un-opened, but the Magners was flowing down quite nicely.

Sunday, again a trip to the Tea Coffee-pot for he obligatory full English before deciding to head home to catch the England game - what a waste of an afternoon that proved to be!!.

Good weekend - shame some of the other Chaps could not make it, cheers Rog.

Piccies here

Edited the Tea pot is actually the Coffee pot as Rog pointed out - bloody strong stuff that pink drink!!
