The chaps descended to Cornwall in 2 waves. The early birds Phil, Rog and Steve setting off at the unearthly hour of 6.00am but not arriving till 1.00pm after getting hopelessly lost whilst looking for the turnoff to St.Austell to go to Tescos for 'Chap' supplies!.
Wave 2 departed at 4.15pm from Simber's abode with 5 of us lobbing in the 'Galteiri Mobile'. Despite it's size it was a good job there were a couple of skinny chaps, Ian and Apprentice Chap (Alex) in the back. Simber's also opted for the no pit stop strategy arriving in 4 hours at 8.15pm.
Wave 2 settled in and headed down to find the first wave chaps already in the Standard and half-cut after an afternoon on the Rattler. Phil was particularly spannered and took his vengeance out on yet another dog, Millie by aiming a strategic right foot up the rectum. It's a good job that Dave the landlord knows us well otherwise Phil may have been doing a 'Stevie B' and taking an early bath. Plenty of ale was consumed before closing time, when we headed back for Tone's gastronomic delight, Curries from M & S. These were superb with rice although the naan breads did get a tad over done in the oven and could have been used for Frisbees. Fed and watered the chaps head of to bed in preparation for the following days activities.
Friday
Suitably refreshed after a good kip, we settled down to a full English prepared by Steve and Ian. A plan was formulated to head down to St.Mawes via the foot ferry at Place and then head over to Falmouth, again by ferry. We set off and had a leisurely walk (approx 3 miles) down to Place basking in the glorious sunshine. The foot ferry soon arrived and took us gracefully across the bay to St.Mawes. We arrived with a waiting time of about 15 mins for the next ferry or 45 mins. Opting not to but the tickets upfront a visit to the Rising Sun for a swift 'pint' was suggested by Tone.
With it being a glorious day we sat outside the Rising Sun to consume the 'swift pint', ................... we never moved all day apart from replenishments and toilet breaks, something which Rog has having plenty of as he developed 'Gerrans Belly', and so much so that chap had to restock on the toilet rolls!!. Approximately 8 or 9 pints were necked with both Tone and the Chap apprentice sticking to the Rattler, no mean feat by anyone's standards. During the afternoon we saw James the Fishing boat skipper walking by and gave him a friendly wave, needless to say we did not see him make the return journey.
The AC (Apprentice Chap) became a bit lairy during the late afternoon and was refused service at the pub, we've all been there and it's a part of the learning curve to full 'Chapdom'!!. 6.15pm arrived and time for the last bus to Gerrans. AC fell asleep and was molested by 2 Gerransites (Graham and Brian who had been on the sauce in St Mawes), good job he never woke up as he does not like being serenaded!!. Arriving at Gerrans we had to help young AC of the bus and back to the bungalow to get a second wind.!!
Fuelled with Chap Snacks (Pork Pie, crisps, etc.) we headed back down to the Standard where more ale was taken and a game of guess the sports person by doing mime actions to the rest of the group. Mr Tibbs or Tubbs (Old Jock actually!!) depending on Phil's mood at the time was quite good, the other amusing part was when anyone one that was bald was to be guessed started with everyone pointing in Ian's direction, can't quite think why!!. AC disappeared to the kitchen to discuss culinary matters with Bobby and the others in there, hope their ears recovered!. Finally we headed back to prepare for Saturday's exotic exploits.
Saturday
Again waking refreshed, another fine fry up was produced and eaten. We decided to drive to St.Mawes as the plan was not t have too many beers there and then come back after the fishing trip to have the BBQ and watch the Rugby. Rog and Tone opted out of the boat trip, Rog with GB still and Tone suffering from something that was nothing to do with the 9 pints of Rattler the day before, Nah of course not!!. Young AC put the premier league chap to shame though and made it aboard the boat.
The seafaring chaps headed out with Captain James for a spot fishing on another glorious day. He did comment that he expected casualties from the previous day!. We had a good 2 and a 1/2 hours on the water catching a few mackerel, but no squid this time. Captain James also took us to one of his lobster pots just by St Anthony's head (The Fraggle Rock Lighthouse!!) to retrieve it and it contents. We then headed of back with our catch to throw on the BBQ later in the afternoon.
As it was still lovely and sunny a couple of beers were had in the Rising Sun before heading off back to Gerrans. The chaps then set about cooking the evening meal of steak, chips, mackerel and onion rings. Chap did his usual BBQ bit for the Steak and fish whilst the other members minded the chips, etc.. A black mark was issued to the Quarter Master (Tone) for only procuring 7 not 8 steaks as were required. Good grub washed down with ale was had by all though.
The final act of the evening was to watch the England V Australia World Cup rugby game. As we had enough ale to sink a battleship, we decided not to head to the social club but watch it at home. This proved to be a good plan as England were crap and the night ended a damp squib. It was a good job that we did not have to walk back up the hill from the club after this.
Sunday
Leisurely Sausage sandwiches made by Tone for brekkie, preceded the usual clean up operations before heading back up the M5
Another good week-end, here's to the next one.
