Thursday

Phil and Rog made an early getaway arriving in Gerrans mid morning. A Short stroll was in order after visiting the Royals Standard first and then an afternoon cider session at the Plume of Feathers before returning home for as nap to wait for the second consignment of chaps.

Daz, Chap & Tone set off around 5.00pm from Tone's and despite a few traffic problems managed to hit the Royal Standard for 9.30pm for 4 swift beers before closing time. Retiring back to the bungalow for a few bottles of ale and pizzas etc. before restring to kip around 1.30am.

Friday

A leisurely full English breakfast was had by the chaps whilst waiting for the third wave of like-minded ale swillers arrived. Sim, Ina and Steve arrived around 11.30 am and after a quick sausage sarnie we decide to head for St Mawes via the foot ferry from Place. A nice steady walk followed by a relaxing ferry crossing getting us to St Mawes around 1.30pm. First point of call was the Victory Inn. A few jars were had in here whilst the chaps also dabbled on the lottery hoping or the big win to enable us to stay on permanent holiday!!. With the weather being reasonable warm we decided to head for the Rising Sun for more ale and miss the 3.30 pm bus in favour if the 5.30pm bus back to Gerrans and the mile and 1/4 walk down the lane. Phil and Steve had other ideas though, hitching a lift of a local to beat us all into the Standard.

Plenty of ale and some fodder were downed at the Standard before retiring at closing time. Tone decided he wanted his balti at home but fed most of it to the sofa as he sat down. More ale, pork pie, crisps and other snacks were demolished before retiring to bed.

Saturday

A plan was in place to spend the afternoon on a sea fishing trip from St. Mawes. After a hearty breakfast the chaps headed off on the bus to arrive at St. Mawes and link up with Captain James Brown, who looked nothing like James Brown but had a strong resemblance to James Naisbitt!!. We climbed aboard the boat and had our safety harnesses fitted, with the usual jokes about Chap and Tone needing the XXXL versions and did the skipper order extra fuel. On the way out Chap became 'Captain Pugwash' for the day given instructions if the real captain fell ill or went over-board!!.

We arrived at the first spot and sat there for about 20mins or so catching nothing so Captain JB decided to move on. Casting our lines for the second time started a 'squid frenzy' with Steve W. laying claim to the first one followed by a number of chaps landing the ink squirting beasties. A couple of mackerel and a red gurnard were also landed. On the way back to St.Mawes Captain Chap Pugwash was at the helm whilst Captain JB gutted our catch and showed Phil and Simbers how to cook them. A splendid afternoon was had with the knowledgable Mr Brown, something we must do again.

Arriving back in St.Mawes, we met up with Dave, who had travelled by train and bus from Brum to meet us in the Rising Sun. A few beers and chap cigars were consumed before heading back to Gerrans to cook out freshly caught wares.

Simbers and Phil cooked up a storm with deep fried squid and sweet chilli dip, followed by BBQ steak, mackerel and red-gurnard washed down with red wine. Who says the chaps don't know how to live life.

Finally, after dining lavishly, we rounded off the night with a few more jars at the Standard, before retiring to bed.

Sunday, quick tidy-up and BBQ sausage baps for brekkie and the chaps departed for home.

A good DTW with the fishing appreciated by most as an alternative to marathon ale trails!!
