England v South Africa 01.08.08

Plan for the day

Meet in the Victorian Tea Rooms at 9.30am

11.00am - Test match cricket

Review

The chaps, Dave, Dave, Phil, Simbers and Chap met up as planned in the Victorian Tea rooms. Various excellent breakfast fodder was consumed before departing to Edgbaston for the cricket.

Arriving around 10.50 am at the ground, we had to endure three searches before gaining ground access (over zealous stewards part 1). Once in-side we then missed the first two overs because the stewards were stopping people accessing the seats until between overs (over zealous stewards part 2!). Finally seated we were treated to an excellent days cricket where over 300 runs were scored and 10 wickets taken & a streaker- unfortunately male!!. Kevin Peterson and Paul Collingwood taking the batting honours for England giving us a glimmer of hope for a positive result. Plenty of ale was also consumed during the day and we had a final instalment of the over zealous stewarding when a few lads were building plastic pint mug towers. In steamed the 'green team' with one female steward taking a particular hard line to the perpetrators (she will be burning books next week on return to the normal day job!!), causing more hassle than what it was worth. This led to a chain-reaction of copy cat occurrences, each time with a steward chasing round after the pint pot tower. Even the coppers were laughing at the ridiculous behaviour of the stewards.

After a good day, with Dave & Dave departing to alternative venues, Chap, Sim & Phil headed of to the O.C's to meet up with Ian. Here a few more rather tasty ales were supped whilst discussing the days events. The final topic of conversation got around to global warming, with Phil and Simbers having a heated debate regarding the Earth's carbon cycle!!!

Good day - here's to nest years Ashes series.
